Seventeen years of doing less, on purpose.

Aurora began in 2009 as two chairs in a room above a bookshop. Three studios and twenty-four thousand patients later, the founding rule has never been rewritten: the least intervention that solves the problem is the right one.

01 — Why any of this exists
“I spent eight years in practices where the appointment was fifteen minutes and the price appeared at the end. I did not want to work that way, and I certainly did not want to be treated that way.”

The practice was designed backwards from that sentence. Longer slots so nobody feels rushed. Written quotes so nobody feels ambushed. A rule that the first visit treats nothing, so nobody is talked into anything while numb and half-reclined.

It is not a business model anyone would recommend on a spreadsheet. It turns out to be an extremely good one anyway: sixty-one percent of the people who walk through the door were sent by somebody who already had.

02 — What we hold to

Six rules, written down in year one and enforced since. They cost us money regularly, which is roughly how you know they are real.

Six rules we have never quietly dropped.

03 — The rooms

Designed by people who have spent a lot of time looking at ceilings from a reclined position.

Daylight, wherever the building allowed it.

04 — How it happened

Slowly, and mostly by refusing to grow faster than we could hire well.

From one borrowed autoclave.

05 — Equipment

Bought to remove guesswork, not to impress anyone.

Every item here earns its place by making a decision more certain or an appointment shorter. Nothing was purchased because it looked good in a brochure.

06 — Working here

We hire slowly and keep people a long time.

Aurora has lost two clinicians in seventeen years. That is partly the longer appointments — it is a considerably better way to spend a working day — and partly that nobody here has a treatment target, because we have never set one.

We are usually looking for hygienists and a dental nurse or two. If you have read this far and recognised something, write to us even when nothing is advertised.

Enough about us. Come and see.

Forty-five minutes, 18,000 Ft, and a written plan you are free to ignore.
